Haematology is the speciality concerned with diseases of the blood. Haematologists have a background in both clinical medicine and in laboratory based pathology. The will usually hold both the MRCP or FRCP and the MRCPath qualifications.

Conditions typically treated by haematologists include:

• All forms of anaemia (low blood counts)
• Bleeding disorders
• Acute & chronic leukaemia
• Other forms of haematological malignancy e.g. lymphoma
