Orthopaedic surgeons deal with diseases of the joints which can be helped by surgery (such as hip replacement or knee replacement). They also operate on bones damaged as a result of cancer or injury. They are able to give advice on back problems and sciatica as well as dealing with such problems as cartilage or ligamentous injuries. They would hold as a minimum the FRCS but most will have done further specialist training.
